Current COVID Procedures

In light of the Coronavirus outbreak, we will add to our already rigorous health and safety protocols at Adventures Wild Ridge. We continue to adhere to state and local health department guidelines and are adjusting camping offerings and trips as needed to ensure the safety of all Young Life staff, volunteers and guests.

Capacity

  • Please contact us for up-to-date capacity for groups.
  • Drop-In or Day Guests are allowed at the discretion of the group and property staff.

Young Life will follow the direction of federal, state and local governmental authorities as we respond to the Coronavirus. We will update our protocols as directed by the CDC, comply with governor’s orders and follow the recommendations of local heath departments. Trained medical personnel (EMT, Paramedic, RN, Nurse Practitioner, Physician’s Assistant or MD) will be on site (provided by the group) for the duration of the event.

Screening:

  • Prior to arrival, trip leaders will confirm that every campers and leader:
         — Has NOT personally tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 10 days.
         — Has NOT been in direct exposure with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 2 weeks.
         — Is free of any symptoms prior to coming to camp.
         — Can pass the daily health screening before and during their camp trip.
  • Daily health screenings and temperature checks will be completed every morning before breakfast.

Cleaning and sanitizing:

  • Our staff will sanitize bathrooms, high traffic/touch areas, and shared equipment daily.
  • The disinfecting products at our camps are on the CDC and EPA lists of products approved to kill coronavirus along with other viruses.
  • Staff and volunteers will clean and disinfect camp between each guest group.

Housing

  • Campers and leaders will be assigned to yurts by area, not to exceed yurt's typical capacity.
  • Each bunk will be rearranged so that guests sleep "head-to-foot".
  • Yurts or cabins are open air, meaning each bunk is adjacent to open window, which allows for ample airflow.
  • Quarantine housing will be set aside for anyone with symptoms waiting to be picked up from camp.
  • Mattresses will be disinfected in between each group
  • Campers will need to bring pillows, sheets/sleeping bags, blankets, and towels.

Meals

  • Hand washing stations with biodegradable soap will be provided for all guests.
  • Campers will eat all meals outside and yurt groups will be encouraged to sit together.
  • Disposable paper products may be used instead of dishes.
  • Staff wearing masks and gloves will serve all meals.
Because Young Life is committed to the health and well-being of all participants in our programs, we are closely monitoring and responding to the global COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak. We are committed to understanding and complying with all guidance and regulations provided and established by the CDC, WHO and local health agencies.

Club/Group Gatherings

  • All group gatherings such as club will also take place outside under our open-air shelter or around the campfire.
  • We have consulted with area staff and have developed a sample daily schedule that considers time for health screenings, cleaning, and for scheduled cohort activities.
  • Campers and leaders will be directed to spread out and use the entire club room (no congregating at the stage).
  • To minimize the number of guests gathered in the club room, work crew will not be permitted to attend club.

Parent/Guardian Information

We are so excited to host your camper(s) at Adventures Wild Ridge! We hope it will be a fun, adventurous experience in the midst of our unprecedented reality.

We have closely reviewed state and local guidance and have built a comprehensive plan for school season operation based on the recommendations from the CDC, the state of West Virginia, the American Camp Association, and guidance from Young Life’s Risk Management department.

Below is a summary of the guidelines we are following to ensure that camp is kept as safe and healthy as possible.

  • We will conduct daily temperature and symptom screenings during the duration of camp (every morning before breakfast).
  • We will have a licensed medical professional on site during each weekend to monitor and evaluate the health of all guests and staff.
  • Should guests or staff present illness, they will be evaluated by our residing medical team. Sick guests and/or staff will be placed into quarantine and plans will be made for the individual(s) to go home to recover.
  • No campers or volunteer staff will leave the camp property during the duration of their stay.
  • Common areas will be cleaned and sanitized multiple times every day.
  • We plan to provide hand sanitizer for campers in appropriate locations.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

Each guest will be required to complete a waiver form prior to arrival at Adventures Wild Ridge.

Health and Safety

If Suspected COVID-19 Case...

  • We will use a symptom tracker/decision tree to determine if someone is symptomatic with COVID-19. An advanced medical practitioner may override this tool.
  • Upon being seen by a medical professional, the guest will be taken to a comfortable quarantine cabin to separate from the group.
  • Parents/guardians will be notified and asked to come and pick up their camper/leader/work crew as soon as possible.
  • Campers/leaders who stayed in the cabin of the sick camper/leader will be screened for symptoms to decrease the likelihood of spreading sickness.
  • Conversations surrounding sick guests will be held keeping their age and fears/concerns in mind.
  • Confidentiality will be maintained at all times. Contact tracing will be coordinated if necessary.
